What if a type of fat we’ve been told our whole life was “evil” was actually the
fat that can help you the most when it comes to burning fat, improving your
heart health, and filling you with long lasting and sustainable energy?
This type of fat supports the adrenal glands and thyroid, has anti-viral, antifungal,
and anti-bacterial effects, and can be utilized by cells for energy without
requiring insulin.
This fat is none other than saturated fat, or more accurately a specific class of
saturated fat known as medium chain triglycerides (MCT).
Medium chain triglycerides like lauric and caprylic acid, which are found in
things like coconut and palm oil, provide all of these benefits and more. Of
particular importance for fitness minded people is that when replacing some
other fats in the diet with these, people tend to lose more fat while reporting
more energy.
Bonus Tip: Coconut oil makes an excellent natural skin and hair moisturizer that
won’t clog pores.
A simple method of utilizing these in your diet is to include 1-3 tablespoons of
coconut oil daily. Another more powerful option is to actually use a MCT oil at
1-3 tablespoons a day.
Dave Asprey of the Bulletproof Executive encourages people to combine MCT
oil with coffee in the morning for sustained energy.

Now that may seem like a lot of fat, but this fat is going to provide energy the
body will burn up rather than store, encourage fat loss, and ideally be replacing
less healthy fats like vegetable oils.
Another benefit of coconut oil and palm oil is that they’re ideal cooking oils.
Simply replacing vegetable oils, olive oil, margarine, or cooking sprays with
these fats is a simple step to improve health and cut down on inflammation.
Coconut oil is solid at room temperature so you’ll need to melt it if it is
solidified. The unrefined coconut oils, which I recommend, can also can have a
strong flavor by itself, but I’ve found it easy to mask when using in smoothies. It
actually enhances the flavor of protein shakes by providing a richer and creamier
texture.
Any virgin (preferably organic but not essential) coconut oil is fine and typically
pretty affordable when ordered online from amazon.com. Higher quality
coconut oil and other tropical oils can be purchased from tropicaltraditions.com
where you’ll also find a variety of coconut based recipes

foods.
